That’s one way to avoid a hazard!
As we all know golf is a mix of good shots (maybe we could do with a few more), bad shots, unlucky shots and downright lucky lucky lucky shots.
Well at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship last week Jordan Speith got lucky with his tee shot which at the moment he hit he knew that it was heading too far left and was heading in the direction of the water hazard. He was last to tee off in the second round with Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler watching on.
As luck would have it (ain’t that the way with golf for some folks?) there were three spectators and a course marshall right in his line of fire. Now they all ducked for cover as they could see the golf ball was coming right at them but one of the four was the unlucky recipient of the golf ball whacking off his butt cheek. Going at some speed we reckon that it was going to hurt!
So as the old saying goes ‘One man’s pain is another man’s gain’, which in this case meant that Jordan’s ball having a lucky butt bounce stayed on the fairway and missed going in to the water and him having to take a drop.
By the looks of things the spectator’s buddies didn’t have much, if any sympathy for him but we are sure Jordan was really grateful.
The golf commentators Dougie Donnelly and Ken Brown are sharing our view that the poor guy will have a golf ball sized bruise to show off the next day.
